Patchy weather in 2010 produced only average fishing but some really good specimens were caught.
Cat, Dog and Bad Na Muirichinn (S2&S3.) Nothing spectacular but one at 1 1/4 lb from the Dog.
Fionn (S1). Mainly small to medium with one at 3 lb one at 4 lb and one monster hooked and lost late one evening .A group camping for 3 days; Day 1 fish Fionn;Day 2 cross the Loch and fish the waters to the South (S 12), climb Suilven and descend to the North and fish the Lochs there, return to camp. Day 3 still alive.
School (S4.) Trout to 1 lb, some salmon and the odd sea trout. Appeared more weedy than usual.
Glen (S5). 30+ salmon reported but more probably caught. Sea trout not as plentiful as 2009.
Bad Nan Aighean and Beannach (W4 &W5). Nothing big but good bags of 8 to 10 oz fish when conditions were right.
The Grilse Loch (unnumbered and found between the main road and Beannach.). The new boat proved useful to the less mobile and even with only 12 oz being the best recorded was judged an asset to fishing in Assynt.
Sheiling (W14). Fish to 1 lb as per usual and the easier access meant more outings. Our thanks to Mr Campbell for lifting the boat at the seasons end.
W6 &W7. The Lochs on the all abilities again proved very popular and Leitir Easaidh rewarded one partially handicapped angler with a fine 2 lb trout.
The Lochs to the North of the all abilities ;( Ws 9,10,11,12 &15) produced large bags of small to medium sized fish for those active enough to get to them. The lack of any grazing has allowed the vegetation to make it difficult to traverse the landscape. Ghlinnein (S8). Sadly under fished as with the Lochs beyond and to the South (S9 &S13). Loch Na Beinne Reidhe (S13) was fished once with 10/12 fish all over 1 lb making the walk up well worthwhile.
Loch Assynt had 3 large ferrox early in the season, plenty of salmon from June on and good trout to 2 lb from the bank around Skiag Bridge the castle bay and the Loanan river meeting the Loch.
Loch Awe (E17) was patchy but reasonable bags were taken and the rich feeding showed in the quality of the fish.
Cam and Veyatie (E21 & E22). Produced fish to 2 lb but mainly 8 to 10 oz. An exceptional beastie of 11 (eleven) lbs come from the bank of Veyatie on a fly and left one very happy fisherman.
Ailsh. (E20). Heavily fished in September. I am disappointed at the number of catch returns handed in and remind anglers on this water to ask for and complete them in future. Only 3 salmon and 6 sea trout were reported.
