2016 was a frustrating yet interesting year. Not many large bags, even from Fionn, were taken, but for the hardy who went to the further lochs some good sport was enjoyed. Suilag and Leothaid with the Glen Canisp bothy nearby fished extremely well.
An inconsistent May Fly hatch seemed general across the UK, some good and a lot of dour days. Our hatch which starts in May and goes to mid September still happened but with greatly reduced numbers.
Char from the Cam system fished well and, for the first time, to my knowledge, one from Beannach and surprisingly one from the Grilse loch were landed.
It is possible that, in the next few years, a directive against taking wild salmon will be enacted in Assynt as is already in place at Laxford. Can we show a responsible attitude now, and practice catch and release on our waters?
Have a great season.
